Scope of Services

ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE - We conduct environmental noise studies to assess compliance with state and local noise regulations. Based on a special analysis of the level, time-course, and character of the noise, we can determine the validity of a noise complaint. Examples of projects include new business parks, residential buildings, road modifications, factories, commercial developments, nightclubs, car washes, and shooting ranges.

HEARING CONSERVATION - To minimize hearing loss in the workplace and to comply with OSHA, we conduct audiometric testing, audit hearing loss prevention programs, and provide on-site management consultation. We also conduct six seminars a year to train individuals to conduct audiometric testing, to fit hearing protection, and to manage a hearing conservation program. Audiogram Review

NOISE EXPOSURE - We conduct noise monitoring (per OSHA, MSHA, or NIOSH standards) to determine employee noise exposures. We use equipment with superior precision and "integrating" circuitry to obtain accurate noise level averaging. Although dosimeters are used when warranted, sound level meters are more frequently used to perform area or task-based monitoring. This allows us to construct unique noise exposure profiles for each job category.

NOISE CONTROL ENGINEERING - OSHA regulations require noise abatement to protect employees when exposures exceed 90 dB. The EPA calls for noise abatement when outdoor daytime/nighttime levels exceed 55/45 dB. And ANSI advocates engineering controls in classrooms when the noise levels exceed 35 dB. To comply with these standards, we conduct engineering noise studies to identify dominant sources and outline feasible controls.

EXPERT TESTIMONY -     We apologize this portion is being modified.

RECORDS REVIEW    We apologize this portion is being modified.

ROOM ACOUSTICS - Excessive noise from equipment such as pumps or ventilation fans or high reverberation from reflective surfaces can create an annoyance and interfere with concentration and speech communication. In offices, the lack of speech privacy creates distractions and reduces productivity. We conduct noise and reverberation measurements to assess the problem and identify solutions. We can also review drawings and equipment specifications to identify potential problems.

PRODUCT NOISE EVALUATION - We have the instruments and expertise to evaluate the sound quality of home and office equipment. Based on our knowledge of sound generation, transmission, and hearing, we can recommend quieter design alternatives. For products such as thermometers, watches, and alarms, audibility is critical. We can assess the audibility of these devices and recommend improvements.
